Essence
My partner, Han, is starting her new company, and as she was discussing her plans with her co-founders, it became clear how essential KPIs are in navigating the chaotic beginnings of a business. From decisions about registering the company to creating a website to creating community to hundreds of other things that come in the mind that you can do - it's easy to get overwhelmed.
1 KPI to begin
Too many metrics are paralyzing. Focus on one simple KPI: the number of customers using your product. This single focus provides clarity and direction. Amidst all the ideas and resistance I am face, setting a clear KPI just provide me the momentum needed to move forward.
Just ship the MVP
How many customers are using my product - zero!! Honestly, this realization hit hard – I don't even have a product yet, which means my first step is creating this MVP. I've been thinking for so many days on summarising my past 6 months of thesis, read a few more books. Smart person's way to procrastinate is that they will always feel they wanna study/research more.
The focus is putting something out there, no matter how imperfect. Creating 30 bad pots everyday will make you much better mason than to spend ages trying to create a perfect one.
Goals are North Star while moving KPI is bottom grunt work
KPIs keep you grounded in the immediate and measurable. Everything else is secondary. This ground-level focus helps you stay on track and measure "real progress".
Make a KPI section you look everyday
Just focus on how many customers you have in the beginning & track it. Let that guide your efforts. Everything else will follow in due time.
